All about me...

Hi! I'm Heidi Levine-Gonzalez ("Mrs. Levine" at school). I am the Performing Arts Teacher here at Village Charter Academy. I was also a member of the original charter development team that brought VCA to life! I have a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, a multiple-subject teaching credential, and two masters degrees: one in Curriculum and Instruction and the other is in Learning and Technology. I also have a musical theater background, with an emphasis in dance. I have produced, directed, and/or choreographed numerous concerts and performances over my 27 year teaching career. I have two children of my own. They were born and raised here in the San Fernando Valley and so was I! They are both in their 20's and work at Walt Disney World in Florida.

How to Handle Fortnite

Many of the students in our class play Fortnite and we recently had a discussion in class about the way games and movies are rated.  I am a big fan of the website Common Sense Media.  They give excellent advice and suggestions on what games, tv shows, movies, and music are appropriate for kids.  Here is the link to a recent article about Fortnite.Fortnite Article

Field Trip Update

Thank you all for your interest in our April 13th field trip.  I have the parents that are needed for chaperones.  We will be going to the LA Zoo to study animal habitats and adaptations.  The children will be doing school work while we are there.  We will be leaving school at 9:30 am and returning by 3:00 pm for dismissal.  Students still need to arrive at school at regular school time (by 8:00 am).

Upcoming Field Trip!

I have scheduled a field trip for the whole class on April 13th.  The students do not know where we are going, but it is an academic focused trip.  I am going to need 4 parents to ride the bus with us, stay with the class throughout the day, and help the students complete their work while on the trip.  For this trip, the students will be free, but parents will be $5 each.

Please let me know if you are interested in joining us on the trip.

Parent Conferences

Please look in your child's folder for your Parent Conference Appointment confirmation.  The times are every 20 minutes and there is a lot of information to cover.  If you are going to be late to your appointment or if you need to change your time...Please email me or call the office and let us know.
See you there!

Happy New Year!

Hello everyone and welcome back for the second half of the school year!  We have passed the midway point and June is quickly approaching!
  • Please be sure that you are checking your child's homework journal and signing it only if all of the homework is complete.  When the homework journal is returned with Ms. De La Cruz's initials, then you know the homework was done completely.
  • If your child comes home with a test that needs to be signed, please be sure to sign it and return it the next day.
  • Please remind your students to bring their A.R. books back to school each day.
  • The children are working very hard in the classroom all day.  They need to be rested and prepared for a long day of work each morning.  Please be sure that they have gotten 10-12 hours of sleep and have eaten breakfast or have time to eat breakfast once they get to school.
  • INTERNATIONAL FEAST:  We need to make up our feast that was delayed from December.  I was thinking we would do it the end of February or beginning of March; hopefully the weather will be a little better.
Thank you all very much for your support!
  Ms. Levine
