All about me...

Hi! I'm Heidi Levine-Gonzalez ("Mrs. Levine" at school). I am the Performing Arts Teacher here at Village Charter Academy. I was also a member of the original charter development team that brought VCA to life! I have a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, a multiple-subject teaching credential, and two masters degrees: one in Curriculum and Instruction and the other is in Learning and Technology. I also have a musical theater background, with an emphasis in dance. I have produced, directed, and/or choreographed numerous concerts and performances over my 27 year teaching career. I have two children of my own. They were born and raised here in the San Fernando Valley and so was I! They are both in their 20's and work at Walt Disney World in Florida.

Just A Few Reminders!

Hi Everyone!

I just wanted to remind parents to send water with their students, even as the weather gets cooler. I also wanted to remind you to please put your child's name in their sweaters and jackets. As the weather cools down in the morning children are more likely to misplace their jackets once the day warms up. Lastly, if you want to order books for your child from the book order, please be sure to fill out the book order form completely and send correct change or a check with your child. You may also order online at www.scholastic.com and use the code written on the book order form that was sent home.

School Starts Monday, 8/17/15!!!

Thank you to everyone who visited for Meet the Teacher Night! If you were not able to attend, your child will receive the information that was distributed. I look forward to seeing everyone on Monday. Please make sure your child is wearing their uniform and has a backpack for the first day of school.

End of the Year Activities!

The end of the is rapidly approaching! Here is a list of our special activities:

June 10: Field trip to Dodger Stadium

June 15: 80's Day

June 16: Board Game Day

June 17: "Kick back and Clean" Day

June 18: Culmination at 8:30 am

June 19: Family Picnic at 10:30 am

Please watch for notices to come home with specific information regarding each of these events.

Jog-A-Thon 2015

Our Jog-A-Thon was a huge success and a great deal of fun! Thanks to all of the parents and family who came out to cheer us on! The kids ran over 370 laps collectively….that's almost 40 miles! If all of the students collect the donations pledged to them we will raise about $1,100! That will pay for our trip to have a private tour of Dodger Stadium, our class t-shirts, and culmination decorations! Thank you again for all of your continued support and dedication to our children!

P.E.

I wanted to let you know that the students will be running every morning for 15 minutes. They will be running laps in the grass. Please be sure that your child is wearing shoes appropriate for running. Also, in preparation for the 5th grade physical fitness test both the 4th and the 5th graders will be doing an hour of PE on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I would like the students to be prepared by wearing comfortable clothes and bringing a bottle of water with them.

Good Evening Parents! We are officially out of tissue in the classroom. We are in desperate need of donations. I will bring a box from home for tomorrow, but I really need the kids' help. Thanks so much!

Chemistry Experiments

Hello Families! Today your student brought home a hand written letter about the items that we need to conduct our chemistry experiments. They do not have to be brand new, nor do they need to be complete packages. We need the following items:

white vinegar
baking soda
baking powder
baby powder (talc)
sugar

The powders and sugar can be sent in zip-loc baggies. Please be sure to label the baggies before you send them.

September Progress Reports!

September progress reports were sent home today. Please review it with your child, sign it, and return it. Thank you very much!

We are now on EDMODO!!

You can now join our class page on edmodo.com. This is a safe and secure social network site for teachers, students, and parents to communicate. The kids love it because it looks just like Facebook! The main difference is that I am the administrator and I only allow them to discuss school topics. You may also join, too. The kids need to go to edmodo.com or download the edmodo app for free and type in our group code which is yd8p24. Once your child is signed up, they will get a parent code that is unique to them. You will use that code to create your account, so you can communicate with me, your child, and the rest of the class!
