Ms. Fisher's Home Page

My name is Lily Fisher, and I am a third grade teacher at Village Charter Academy.  I grew up in Santa Cruz, California, and I started dancing at age 3.  Studying ballet, tap, and jazz at my mother's dance studio, I began teaching dance to children and adults at age 13.  Developing a great love for the arts, I had the opportunity to move to Santa Monica College to study dance with Linda Gold, Alma Hawkins, Iris Pell, and Judy Douglas.  I transferred to UCLA and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology.  I began my teaching career in 1998 at Montague Charter Academy in Pacoima, where I had the opportunity to teach 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades and be the Compliance and Student Services Coordinators.  I earned two Masters Degrees, in Education and Administrative Education, an Administrative Credential, and I became a National Board certified teacher.  I have mentored other educators through the Beginning Teacher Support Program (BTSA).  This is my fourth year at Village Charter Academy, and I am humbled and proud to be a part of this thoughtful and rigorous school and environment.  I am also a proud penguin parent of three, with a first and third grader here at VCA.  I have a sixth grader who just graduated from VCA.  With such an awesome staff of educators, specialists, and leaders, and amazing students, parents, and families, we are creating our dream school!  We are building our gem of an education together!  I am a proud penguin teacher, parent, and community member!  Go Penguins!!

Our class silkworms are eating mulberry leaves and growing!  What do you notice?  What do you wonder?

Happy Fall Break

Fall Break begins this week Penguins!  There are many wonderful ways to spend fall break with your family.  Read together, go on walks, bike rides, and hikes, cook and bake, and even conduct science experiments.  I will post pictures of our class silkworms regularly for observation.  Write down what you notice and wonder about them.  Create an illustration of them.  They are changing rapidly!
Have fun parents, students, and families, and I look forward to having our next Zoom lesson on Monday, October 12th from 8:30-9:00 am.  From 9:00-11:00 am on that same Monday, you will come to school to drop off your Unit 1 and Unit 2 books and pick up your new materials.  I cannot wait to see each one of you.  Please remember to wear your mask and socially distance when you come on campus.
In the meantime, have a restful and relaxing Fall Break!
